Support Groups 2007
The participants have let us know that these groups have been a very important step for them to take and that meeting the other participants in the group has eased their sense of being on their own and that they have felt understood and supported by the others in the group.
Women's Groups 2007
Respond SA ran a series of workshops for women who were interested in meeting other women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, to share their knowledge and skills and to support each other.
The groups were run by counselors from Respond SA and ran for approximately 7 weeks with up to 12 women participating in each one. During these groups we did not ask participants to speak about their own experiences of abuse: we created respectful and honoring places for women to talk about some of the ongoing, everyday consequences and effects of abuse in their lives and looked at ways of respond to these effects.
In 2007 we ran the following groups:
- Adelaide (April), facilitated by Sue
- Noarlunga (May) facilitated by Maree
- Elizabeth (May) facilitated by Dung
- Port Adelaide (May) facilitated by Helen
- Elizabeth (June) facilitated by Dung
Men's Group 2007
This was an open group which men were able to join and leave at any time. It ran during 2007 and was an opportunity for men to meet other men who had survived childhood sexual abuse. The group ran monthly and was facilitated by Andrew, a Respond SA counselor.
